happy campers

so i found out doug and his family and most of the greater sacramento area have been camping at new brighton state beach for memorial day weekend since at least 1984. who knew? doug hadn't been since before his mission, so we decided it was high time we made the trip.

we hung out at the beach

ate some pie

lounged in the tent

found a railroad track

played with fire

roasted marshmallows (even during the day)

found a little kid silently contemplating life on the edge of a cliff

found another little kid doing the same

plus a ton of other stuff... like card games and wiffle ball and the santa cruz boardwalk and the giant dipper and too many things to mention. with the showers and the beach and the civilization it was definitely my kind of camping! i'll be back.

Fun time. Did you get in the water? Was my friend Emily there with three kids?

i didn't get in the water but it was a little cool outside the day i wore my swimsuit. and chances are she was there! i'm not sure. a lot of people came earlier in the week and left earlier, too.

I'm going next year! Thanks for the pictures - I first went there around 40 years ago, and most every summer growing up. Thanks for the memories - especially the Giant Dipper :)
