hp & me

the first time i ever heard about harry potter was in 5th grade. this random kid came on the rosie o'donnell show and the only unique thing about him was that he had read all the harry potter books (so far) and was a big fan. good for him.

but then, in 6th grade, we read the sorcerer's stone as a class. we then made up a game of quidditch in the gym for p.e. it was cool cause harry was 11 and we were 11.

in middle school, when i was 12 and so was harry, i was bound by the chains of accelerated reader ::shudder:: so, i read the chamber of secrets.

then, in an effort to rack up some more a.r. points, i read the prisoner of azkaban. this one is my favorite. me: 13 harry: 13

finally, and about 20 points later, i had read the goblet of fire. it's then that i realized these books were getting ridiculously long. and kind of scary. harry was 14 and i was still 13 but whatever. by this point i was a bonafide harry potter fanatic!

and that's where my harry potter reading journey abruptly ends. why? well, for one thing, i was in high school at this point and i barely had time to do my homework, let alone read a million page book for fun. also, the 1st and 2nd movies had come out by then, and my imagination was killed. the characters were nothing like what i imagined. hogwarts was way different. the movies left out tons of stuff. and this whole time i thought hermione's name was pronounced "her-mee-own." not to mention i would actually have to wait for book releases. who does that?

but, now that the movies are history and i'm not in school, i'm starting on the half-blood prince. i think it's okay if i skip the order of the phoenix, right? better be, because the library didn't have it.

I'm listening to Order of the Phoenix right now. It's pretty good. When I re-watched the movie last week I liked it a lot more than I used to.

And I hear D. Scott Hotard thought it was 'her-me-own-ee'.

I didn't remember when you read which books, or that you were the age of Harry Potter for a while. When did we win the set from the library, books 1 through 4 right? And AR is all but dead and gone now. Kids just read books for fun, whichever books they want. They still have AR tests, but they can't be used as a grade, I guess they are just for fun.
