seal pups and a birthday

it seems like we're doing something new every weekend, so surely we've done everything there is to do in san diego. right? wrong! so this weekend it was off to la jolla cove.

and the children's pool (it's seal pupping season!)

by the way... there's a rope you aren't supposed to cross during pupping season but these people chose to anyway. i think they were protesting or something. politics...

and the underwater park.

in case those pictures didn't quite bring it to life, here's a video for your viewing pleasure starring doug and some seals and a few birds. shot on an iphone 4. no lens. music by celine (duh.) plus you can see the little baby seals crawling around. cute!

p.s. doug had a really good birthday. dinner at bj's, chocolate cake, games, fun!

he got lots of nice cards, birthday wishes, a boogie board, movies, padre tix, et cetera, but surprisingly enough, his favorite gift was this slinky:

You crack me up, Marisa! Btw, those baby seals look like fast moving slugs, random thought of the day. Also, my sister used to live in San Diego and when I visited her, I went to that exact same spot to watch the seal pups. Pretty dang sure!

Love this! I really miss living in Southern Cal when I see your blog - so many fun things to do. Here's a couple of my favorites you might want to try up north a bit - don't miss the Del Mar Fair this summer, and also, the Pageant of the Masters and Art Festival in Laguna Beach, also in the summer, a train ride up the coast to Orange County or L.A. is fun, and rides along the water a good part of the time, a couple of favorite restaurants - El Prado right in the middle of Balboa Park, and Beachgrass in Solana Beach. Tidepools in Laguna Beach are nice too - right near the main beach. Making me a little jonesy for Orange county :)

La Jolla! Ha, been there with Dad and Daniel. Same beach, no pups. Lifeguard warned of riptide as we went out to snorkel...had to have lifeguards come help us back in as all the tourists lined up and took pictures along the shore. Great pics Cuz! Lovin the mad slinky skillz!
