I didn't tell anyone at work I was pregnant until I was about 20 weeks along. People thought it was crazy that I waited that long, and as time goes by I am more and more glad I did wait!
Yesterday, I was putting a binder in the top shelf of a supply cabinet. Since my office is a sea of cubicles, you can't do anything without other people seeing. A girl I work with looked at me with complete shock and terror on her face.
Girl: Did you just lift your hands above your head?
Me: Uh... yep.
Girl: [mouth drops open]
Me: Am I not supposed to do that or something?
Girl: No! The umbilical cord will wrap around your baby's neck.
Me: [laughing] You're kidding, right?
She wasn't. Since when does the position of my arms affect what's going on in the womb?
Today, I went to the same supply cabinet, and so I wouldn't get into any trouble, I bent over and put the item on a lower shelf. A different concerned coworker didn't think I should be doing that.
Girl: What are you doing bending over like that?
Me: Uh... just putting something away.
Girl: You're not supposed to do that!
Me: Why?
Girl: Because you're pregnant!
Great logic! So, I can't lift my arms and I can't bend over. Doug, if you're reading this, take note. I can't do anything for the next 3.5 months except stand in one place or sit down. And I think I heard once that doing dishes would cause your baby to be left handed (we don't want that!) Thanks in advance for your cooperation.

Hahaha. Your baby's umbilical cord is actually connected to the ligaments in your arms, weird you didn't know that.

I think that Christmas was relatively late for your mom to find out you were pregnant, but it was momentous. And plenty long enough. I think it's kind of amazing that you were 20 weeks before anyone at work noticed. (I just noticed that you had a new blog post when I was watching Emily's hat video.)
