candy

with my recent workout craze, i have (mostly) cut candy consumption out of my life, which is quite a feat considering doug's employer. as a farewell to candy, i thought i'd pay tribute to my favorite random candy products throughout the years that i forgot about until now.

1. green apple airheads. they take me back to summers spent at porter park in rexburg. i think they were like 5 or 10 cents or something and thomas would go buy a handful for all of us. or at least that's what my 6 year old self remembers. they also get really soft laying out in the sun and still taste good covered in pool water.
2. squeeze pops. they remind me of rexburg riding our bikes to the... gas station? what was that place? mini mart? i think you turn left after the archibald's house, cut through the bank parking lot, cross the street, and there you are. anyway, they were soooooo good but i think they have an age limit of 12, sadly.
3. zotz. what the heck ever happened to these things? they came in strings and the only place i've ever seen them was at the "candy store" at the 6th grade school. they fizz when you get to the middle, i think. which is THE BEST! speaking of the bsgs candy store, does that place still exist? and did we pay in money or tickets or what? this was over a decade ago! i'm getting old!
4. chewy tart n tinys. i forgot these existed until i saw them under the former products of willy wonka candy company wikipedia page a few days ago. i bought these ALL THE TIME from the vending machines at MVMS. they were perfect for sneaking in class. i can't believe they've been (supposedly) discontinued, though. guess it doesn't matter, since i'm done with candy...

5. shock tarts. i was shocked to find out that these are now called "shockers." maybe people were getting them confused with sweet tarts? who knows. i was so obsessed my mom used them for the "about me" display at new beginnings.

6. war heads. the black cherry ones were my favorite. i always randomly had a few in my pocket in middle school for some reason. they're not so sour once you get past the first layer! i think i saw my mom eat one once... and never again. some people can handle it, some people can't!

7. giant pixy stix. i think i specifically recall getting these at the blackfoot swimming pool. blue ended up being my favorite. they were really hard to open without scissors, though, which was their one downfall.

and that concludes my trip down forgotten candy memory lane. there are several more i could mention but they started playing the music and i have to get off the stage, and i've been watching too many awards shows. it may seem as though i ate wayyy too much candy as a child/teen, but look... by the end of it all i was still pretty skinny. proof:

so in conclusion, eat candy as a kid and you'll be okay! after that... it's over.

True dat. I thought I'd be a fast metabolized person my entire life. Nah nah, I was severely mistaken. It's pretty much torture. I really wish I only longed for salty foods, but nope, sugar is my best friend...ahem, was my best friend.
